Default Bridge Sign?

This image popped up on FB.

Some commentators believe the "38" to be the Bridge Sign, but it is on the side of this Canadian M4A2 (76)W HVSS. Did Canadians in the '60s put the bridge sign/gross weight on the side??

Wondering ....

Thanks

Mike
