Found this trial report ( 2 parts ) in the NAA system..
In 1955, a vigourous trial was held in Victoria and South Australia, comparing an Austin CT ( Champ ) against a WW2 Jeep. It is interesting that the trial concluded that the Champ's main advantage over the jeep was that it had a much improved ride and higher speed. But, more importantly, the overall off road capabilities of the Champ were considered to be not superior to the Jeep. One noted problem, was, mud getting into the Champ (and apparently Jeep) brake drums . The higher weight of the Champ was also noted, around 1000 pounds.
