I realize I am beating this to death, but two more theories have come up from the web.
Firstly a couple of chaps have said the first truck has a body very similar to that supplied to ARAMCO and other oil extraction and exploration companies based all over the Middle East.
Thus it could be an impressed truck from that area. Makes some sense and I am trying to find some historical sources on that area/era.
Secondly, it has been suggested that the second truck bears a striking resemblance to the 1939 vintage Nissan 80 truck which is pictured rather badly in Bart's books. Thus if it were so, it must have been captured by the Russians at Kahlkin Gol in 1939.
Interesting I guess.
