I've just discovered a piece of software which has become my instant favourite. It's from Adobe and is called Lightroom which is available on both Windows and Macintosh platforms.
What it does is allow you to catalogue all your images, both photographs and scans and to arrange them by keywords which you input for each image. I've chosen to place all my images (after backing them up of course) onto a separate USB2 drive of 250Gb so I can have vast quantities instantly available. So far my library consists of over 20,000 images and it handles this with elegance and ease. Another great feature is the ability to quickly create web galleries of selected photographs (you need your own server space of course). I've added one experimentally here as a flash gallery of images from Ringwood Timber and Trading Co CMPs from the early 1970s. The drawback I have found so far is I haven't found a way to individually caption the images yet. Be interested in feedback. Does anyone else use Lightroom?
