When assaulting enemy positions nothing kept the Engineers busy as obstacle clearing. One of the most dangerous obstacles was mine fields as shown in the attached picture taken in Tilly-sur-Seulles soon after D Day. Considering the extent of the damage it's doubtful there were any survivors. I assume the Sapper in the picture has already cleared the ground on the far side of the carrier.
