KIA attending to horse lines outside a church in Bonny France 22nd June 1918 1 week after this photo was taken.
He was resting after just returning from the front lines with his horse team 90 years to the day this year A stray german HE 77mm shell landed just 5 feet in front of him and knocked him out (nice way of saying he was blown appart) DRIVER C.N.Draeger (Driver of horse teams pulling ammunition limbers and artillary shells) with 11th Field Artillary Battallion (FAB), 11th Brigade, AIF From Victoria ( My grandfathers 1st cousin) He held the line Lest we forget More details can be found of his service records (all now digital on line) by researching a person on line @ Australian War Memorial Particularily of interest are the red cross witness statements of his demise |
