Great coverage Andrew.
I drove that old Albion at the Toowoomba Ag Show in April 1979. It was then owned by the Jondaryan Wool-shed in QLD. It is now owned by a fellow in Parkes NSW. It doesn't look a bit different now to 1979. Just for the record it is a 1924, 4 ton, 32hp, 4 cylinder Albion with a dry sump arrangement. It has a 12 to 36 reduction of 3 to 1 on the chain final drive. My 1916, 3 ton Albion has the same engine and 3 speed gear-box but has an 18 to 36 or 2 to 1 final chain drive. So mine is a lot faster, but his carries a larger load. 4 tons as to 3 tons. Regards Rick

Hi Andrew - did you happen to get a shot of the Scania truck that was there. If so can you post it as I have an interesting story about it.

Hi all - this is an interesting story I only heard tonight from Lawrie the Dingo Man. It involves some liaison by a NSW Military Club member Dutchy. Dutchy subscribes to a Netherlands vehicle magazine and a recent article featured the 1950s importation of some Scania buses from the Uk to a Netherlands bus company. One of these buses was converted to a wrecker by the bus company with the addition of a Holmes Wrecker for their bus recoveries. This truck was eventually bought by a collector in Tasmania who removed the Holmes Wrecker and housed it on another truck. The remains of the truck was eventually bought by a Queensland collector and finished up at the Dubbo show.
In the mean time Dutchy wrote an article to the Netherlands magazine stating the history. But not only that, Dutchy also located an identical Holmes Wrecker that will join this truck. Apparently when the initial conversion from bus to wrecker took place the grill, for some reason was cut down to about half its size. The current owner is looking for a full size grill. That's the story in a nutshell and is correct as far as I know and I reckon it is a fascinating story. Bob
