Thanks John!

And don´t forget Soldiers marching along road.

And what about Traffic control man holding traffic while convoy moves by. Excellent pic showing how the convoy lights under the back of vehicles worked (even though the shot looks staged).

I agree on that Rich got to be more than 200 trucks out of 20 000.000 photos i have found others by trying to think how they would insert the search term as you say a 10 year old, i wonder if a agency were given the job of progamming this lot and if so its as usual totally no knowledge of the subjects and useing the original captions from the photos. Funny thing tonight i put trucks and a few others in the search box and it did not regonise them, strange as it had every other night. Also some of the links that they have put in when you bring up a photo do the same ? good site unfortuatly thousands of images locked in there you can only reach with luck

Les, Have you tried 'steam shovel italy' ? Some stuff there you'd like I think.

Most confusing how it all works. Being too specific finds nothing and too wide makes it default to 'nothing found'

On the Life web site i have been putting all manner of military titles in the search box for instance Army division, brigade, company etc and all the usual vehicle types it seems to work but i still draw blanks every so often i find most results come from useing American terms rather than european, try putting in names of battles that produces some items
cheers

Les,

Try adding "1940s" to your search query, it helps narrowing down the number of found pictures which is limited to 200 for each search. Also, excluding words by using "-", e.g. "-truck", helps.

Thanks Hanno
This really is a strange site to navigate, you mention 1940 well this comes upoften in the links click on it and you get nowt then it has been mentioned put in the life photographers, now that sounds a good idea untill you do it and the site seems reluctant to regonise its own people once again nothing i think i located about 8 to 10 names and 4 worked same with the links that appear when a photo is enlarged only about 10% work still i managed to save about 200 items of interest but still not much from the 20.000.000
cheers
Les
