Not really, normally only numbers are stamped on the rear tow lugs. Examples for M3 Mediums are 1687 (M3 built by from American Locomotive), 1962 (M3A1 surviving at APG, USA). The first M3 Medium Tank built by Chrysler at the Detroit Tank Arsenal in April, 1941 is still around and has the serial number 2 stamped on the rear tow lugs.

P.S.: here´s an exmple showing serial number 18903 stamped on left rear towing shackle boss of an M4A4 (Sherman VC Firefly):
