I Stiched new window plastic in the ones I have in the truck . I also have a set wich is collored in a dark desert yellow . And I have from the same material a radiator cover.
The rods are solid and round even at the bottom .there are little tubes welded on the top ones corners, so you can slide the upright ones in .
if they are mounted , the screen is a nice tight fit in the cab , but if you unbucle the 3 doorfasteners , and lift it out the two upright ones fall out of the bottom of the screen . In practice they went in the mud , to not be botherred about anymore . You have to take the 3 rods out off screen so you can fold screen double and put it together with the rods in the bag behind driver.

Default Side Screens etc. (usw.)

The screen I obtained from Brian Asbury is a bit different from the ones I've seen in this thread. It has a different sized set of "windows' that the one Maurice has but the same as Chuck's. However, There are three"cinch" type fasteners that attach the bottom of the curtain to the door. Please see the pictures below.

Another conundrum: When I got my truck there were ring snaps along the top of the door frame. My body guy dutifully replaced them when replacing the wood framing. What was their purpose? Is there a third "flap" that snaps on there? See the picture.

Regards,
Jim

Maurice, may be a misunderstanding, but that doesnt make sense as the door fittings for the rods are square/diamond shaped , unless the door fittings are of two types ... mystery goes on.

Here's a couple of factory pix of the side curtains. You can see the top snaps on the inside pic.

David,
If you were referring to my email, I can't see any snaps on the top of the door frame in either of your pictures. Also, fastening the top of the curtain to the top of the door frame (which is an immovable part of the roof) doesn't make sense as one would have to unfasten the top of the curtain each time they opened the door.
Mike,
The openings in the top of the doors in my F8 are round, 1/2" in diameter.

Regards,
Jim

Ok Jim.... Maybe it takes a Canadian to insert a round shape into a square hole ! Or it is a variation of those IQ tests .. I give up

Mike,
I didn't doubt for a minute about your sanity! Mac's has a part no. A180620, Side Curtain Rod Socket, shown in their latest catalog. The detail in the drawing of it is insufficient to see whether the socket itself is square or round. I may need to call them on something else and will ask. Will let you know what the answer is.

Regards,
Jim

Was going over this thread and it has really really useful info Cab 11/12 owners

Perhaps it could be made into a sticky thread.

What do the moderators think?

Hello Tony, indeed a useful thread. But not for everyone. So I would propose members to make their own "favourites" or "bookmarked threads" topic.

Here is an example of what Alex did: Reference: HOW-TO topics on MLU...techniques, tricks etc.. I will gladly make such a thread a sticky.

Would this work for you?

Regards,
Hanno

Default Top Door Frame Snaps

David,
Aah! The detail in your latest picture does clearly show the snaps on the upper door frame! However, because it is an inside-the-cab picture, one cannot tell from it whether there is a separate piece of canvas snapped in place or that this particular side curtain had a top flap that snapped in place there. I still rather doubt this latter possibility because of the awkwardness of having to unsnap the top each time the door was opened.

Regards,
Jim

Jim,

There isn't any separate item you describe ( canvas piece ) , listed in the Chev cab 11/12 parts list .

I noticed in one of your earlier posts Maurice you appear to be the proud owner of the side curtain rods for the 11/12 Cabs.

Are you able to provide some measurements of these? Just length and diameter would be really really useful.

Please??

Default For the record

The fasteners at the bottom of the side curtains that clip it onto the door are these in the picture.

The ones that go into the door are A81002

Used om T-Model Fords.

Default Curtain Rod Holders

Afternoon Gents,

Ill stick with this thread because I am attempting to get the rods and curtains spot on with new reproduction materials.

Part of this involves getting the rod holders in the doors right.

I just rang a die cast place who suggested the mould may cost $3000!!!!!!

My next question is obvious - does anyone know where there may be some new old stock ones???

I have tried the ones from Mac's that suit Model T's and A's but they don't quite fit properly.

Suggestions??

Default Square holes

Tony

You need one of those drills that makes square holes

There is a process called broaching, https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broaching_(metalworking) square holes are made possible . Would it be possible to fabricate new sockets from aluminium or brass stock rather than a casting process ?

Default Update

OK... Its been a while but this project has been embarked upon.

I have had the help of a engineering business in Corowa for the rods and the Canvas has been very well done by a professional trimmer who specialises in the WW2 gear.

This is the result..

Looking good

I posted the original curtain to Matt just after Corowa. The vinyl trim piece around the clear plastic windows is a dark green on the original , we discussed it at Corowa ?
