The standed practice in Australia for armoured, was from 1975 onwards to paint a name on the side. It had to start with the A if in A Sqn or B for B Sqn. This I believe is also standed practice in the UK.

BEWILDCARD B Sqn
This photo is from the First Armoured Regimental Association Collection and is in the 1950s, so the practice as above was standard also back then.
