Hi things_green,

Thanks for sharing your father´s images. Interesting to see the "door art"!

What unit was you father serving in?

Thanks,
Hanno

This image appeared on the Allied Forum, posted by Radak, but I thought we should see it on MLU !. no it's not the Bike or the Kubel, it's the CMP 3 tonner in the background

Jeep assembly in the UK? Note the CMP trucks in the background.
Wonder where that was taken? RA Brand, Manchester?

Very interesting pictures of the artwork on the trucks' doors, things-green. More than one "expert" has told me that one never saw names or artwork on other than AFV's in WWII.

CHIMO! Derek.

Default Mystery P-40

Gents:

Found this on an aviation website! Consensus so far is that it was taken at Labuan, North Borneo. Any thoughts on the tail marking on the P-40N (RAAF)?

Default Thoughts on the Tail Marking

Al,
I believe that this is the "Frill Neck Lizard" which was the informal squadron insignia of the 3rd Squadron. This squadron was based in the Mediterranean Theatre as part of the Allied Desert Air Force. (later the First Tactical Air Force), supporting the 8th Army.

Regards,
Jim

Default Mystery P-40

Jim:

I would have to go with North Borneo. Note the SEAC markings on the upper wing and fuselage. Conjecture is that it is an a/c of either 4 or 76 Sqn RAAF. Upon closer examination, the tail marking would appear to be some type of mythical bird. The part above the head would be the starboard wing of the bird and the tail is clearly visible just below the small black horizontal line on the tailfin. It's not a "side on profile" it appears to be more of a 3/4 side view of the beast.

Agree, although it would be from one of 75, 76, 77 or 78 squadrons which were the P4o users. No4 had Boomerangs and before that Wirraways.

Default Pat 11 or 12 C15

Looks like a Pattern 11 or 12 with the top and windshield removed. At first I thought that it might be a Pat 13 because of the flat aspect of the doors to the body of the truck but on looking closer I think the left door is part way open what makes me think it is a Chev is the shape of the overflow tank, what little of it can be seen.

But what throws me is the front hubs it almost looks like it has the later stile lift flanges.

Cheers Phil
