All sound good. I did think it might be a culmination of a number of small problems, although selecting 1st and third is the same movement, and so points to a specific issue.
Its hard to beat molygrease. I suggest you stick with it.
Let us know how the test goes.

Default Carrier gearshift binds in first gear

Hi Lynn

Thanks for that. What about the shaft and sleeve that the gear lever itself is fitted to? Do you grease or oil this? I see there is an oil hole on the top of the sleeve but I don't know how effective the oil would be. Grease does seem to make it a bit sticky and gluggy though.

Cheers

Darryl

I think I'd just oil it.

Default Carrier gearshift binds in first gear

Gidday all,

I took the carrier out to the local A and P show today with some of the other club guys. We managed to get out into one of the paddocks and I got the carrier nice and hot in a drive around there. It was good to get somewhere where I could get into top gear for a change rather than the 1st and 2nd gear in our street!

I'm pleased to report that all is well so far. The gearchange was nice and smooth and a definite improvement on how it was before. There were no signs (so far) of it binding or sticking in 1st gear. It looks to me like all the little improvements and tidy ups have done the trick.

Thanks all for your ideas and assistance.

Cheers

Darryl

Thumbs up Bren carrier gears

Pleased to see that you have had a succesful drive in your carrier and the gear shift is working O.K. Also pleased to note that you had no trouble putting the top back on the gear box, unlike me. Have a succesful and trouble free season, John.

I think I recall from a manual book you can break the tracks and run the gears thru 1 2 3 4 and reverse. would that be hard to do?
