For what its worth here below are two pictures of the 4 inch discharger bracket and the 2in. mortar mount. You can see that the 4in. mount has been pivoted down and is held by two bolts. The spare bolt is above the bracket. John.

Hi
I would think that both were not attached at the same time. I have seen factory pictures of both mounts on... but I have not seen one picture of both of them (4 inch and 2 inch)being mounted a carrier at the same time. It would appear to me that the 2" inch mortar replaced the 4" inch smoke discharger. And the simple fact that during the transition of early armour production some MKII* carriers had both holes drill into their armour. I would love to see a picture of both on at the same time. I should think that this carrier was still in its crate at the end of the war, the build date is Oct. 1944. John. |

My Carrier is Febuary 1944, and does NOT have both. I have a 2" inch mortar in mine.
My carrier was released right after Korea in 1953, and has never been touched. Cheers Adam |

I don"t know what you are implying with your capital letters "NOT. I have checked out the bolt holes on my carrier and they are countersunk on the outside and have the correct dome headed, countersunk, slot headed bolts. Being on the outside of the hull means that the bracket would be fitted on the inside and as far as I am concerned this was done in Fords factory in Canada and not done by anyone else. John.

I simply mean my carrier doesn't have it? And my carrier is factory as well.
I wish a Ford designer was around to say why? Or even a memo. Its one of those puzzles? Cheers Adam |

Hi all, would be anyone so kind and measure for me the position of four holes for the smoke discharger on the side armour (Mk.II)? I need to drill them on my project.
Many thanks in advance!
