Its not an Australian Carrier, It's an Australian pattern carrier, built in New Zealand. Newzealand built about 630 carriers, and then the War council ordered another 2000. Production was started, and when things were well underway, with about 500 carriers built, the war council shifted its order to Ford of Canada. At the wars end ther was a lot of new carriers. The Army drew on them. This carrier was one of those carriers that was converted to a Mortar carrier, post war.
The nipple will be the same as the ones on your toolboard, for your crow bar strap, or see the one on a universal, where the strap clips over the bren gun on the bracket with the short rubber rest.... Ok, Ok, I'll do a photo.
The one at the back is British, the one at the front of the photo is Canadian.

Hi Dave, Many thanks for taking the time to take the pictures, Rick DeBruyn is waiting for the snow to clear as he has the remains of one of the original wood tripod brackets he will measure up, I will post the details on here. What I really need is details now of the wood support for the base plate.

kevin.

Hi Euan, If thats how you see it.
Ours were built off Australian plans.
Australia initially agreed to supply us with carriers, but when none were forthcoming, we built our own.
Firstly the 40 riveted Brens, and then 560 LP2's.

So Kevin, have you worked out the straps over the barrel (tube)? As you have never posted saying so, here's the way I see it:
Each of the two straps start at the rear of the bracket. They are riveted around the inside of the brackets (going forward under the barrel. The free part of the strap goes over the barrel and is pulled down to clip onto the stud, securing the barrel into the brackets. Simple really.

Does anyone have spares of the spring shown in Greg Anderson's posts #9 and #10?

Default mortar brackets

These are on a Mark II #2 that never left Canada and was used presumably for training as the brackets have been welded onto a welsh stowage carrier.

Could be tempted to make my Mk2 into a mortar carrier. Want my carrier to have the Stacey bars on though.
