Keep Them Rolling, the HMV club I am a member of, has a “Jeep Construction Team” which does the same thing with a WW2 jeep. It has been specially modified with quick disconnect spring hanger pins etc. It is not roadworthy, but it is a great crowd puller for sure!

Sadly the jeep was destroyed in a fire last year, so they are now working on finding a replacement.

They used to do this at Vernon Army Cadet Camp in the 1970's.

At one point during the Graduation parade a 'Herbie' (Private/Cadet) from the Driver (Wheeled) Course would drive a jeep onto Dieppe Parade Square, park it in front of the reviewing stand and then walk off for a smoke (!)

A mob from the same course would then descend on the jeep like a cloud of locusts, strip it down and carry everything but the frame away out of sight. The driver would return from his fag-break, see what was left of the jeep and then run off yelling for the Provost.

He'd then return, flanked by the two biggest Provost Corporals in the Camp only to find that the jeep had miraculously re-assembled itself in his absence.

The Provosts would immediately jack him up for wasting their time with false reports, and then chase him out of sight while swinging their sticks at his head!

the 'Vandals' would then run out of the crowd, hop in the jeep and drive off, cackling madly....

All WE plugs in C Company got to do in the Grad parade was close-order drill...
