Hi all
I thought I would put my 2 cents in considering I am most likely the Australian bird Lynn spoke about. The 2 photos attached are of some of the bit I have managed to put together over the past few years. I will talk about what I consider to be British made parts for a British made carrier. As far as I an aware, there are no Canadian carriers in Australia BUT I'm happy to be shown otherwise. The speedo in the photo is made by smiths and is the same as the remains of the 1 from my carrier (AOP Mk2) The Amp Gauge is made by CAV and is NOS. The 3 holes drilled into the outer flange fit perfectly to those in the control panel. The oil pressure gauge is an issue. I have never been able to find another (but would love one) The water temp gauge is indeed ARIC. Both the temp and oil gauges are mounted with 4 machine screws to the outer flange. The light switch/ ignition switch is CAV. The is at least the newer version is so I assume the original (mounted) is as well. An interesting note is that the original ignition switch is blanked off with only a screw. I would be interested in a reason why. Again I assume that it came from a truck or such like and not required for the carrier. Another point of interest is that the control panel was originally painted green and not black. So, I hope this helps. I concur with Lynn, British carriers ( of the one I have at least) used gauges from at least 3 different suppliers. SMITHS, ARIC and CAV. Happy gauge hunting Nigel |

Thanks for the reply, what model of British carrier is that from? I have a copy a British manual and the one shown doesn't have the "extra" lower dial. Also I believe some Canadian carriers had British instruments ( I think Eddys has them ) I know Lynn did a thread on Instrument panels which was a great help. Thanks Ben |

Thanks for that.(Sorry for calling you a bird) We missed some stuff here. The (I've covered this before) starter button is by the Prince of Darkness (Joseph Lucas) and apart from the surround, and button, is the same as early LandRover, or early Fergy (gear lever start) tractor. here are some variations to the instrument light, at least one of them was Lucas, and the toggle switches were CAV (I think) similar to Valentine tank switches.
Advertisement. I would like to buy three switches, instrument light (steel one) and the white faced CAV ammeter. PLEASE!!

The dash panel you are talking about is from The Armoured O.P. MkIIIw. (My Carrier)
Eddies carrier will be one of those built by Ford of Canada, under contract, using British built componentary, sent to Canada, for installation. - read Nigel Watsons Book (Vol.1?)

This switch may be of interest to someone. I don't know if they were still using this switch in land rovers, but it certainly looks to be the same as for the carrier. I think the seller may have 2 of them.
