I'm not positive but could be a M-H.. See the Ford design front axle housing for the front wheel drive.. But not positive. And the front wheels and dual rear wheels.. All typical of M-H..

Its a GMC ACK353 ex French Contract.
The reason for the Ford like front Diff is that they are Timken (split) diffs and they used Budd five stud wheels All the best Kevin |

I agree with Kevin.....An ACK353 during it's ownership by the third (?) party.....French, German, Canadian.
Interesting picture Clive. Do you know where and when it was taken? ![]() source: http://yemenclassiccars.tripod.com (but likely to be borrowed from Bart VanderVeen's military vehicles directory)

L181462 relates, according to the Chilwell lists, to a Ford Lorry, 1 ton 4x2 GS (V3593 - L181101 - L181600).
I wonder if the marking that we're looking at on the off-side wing is the yellow top corner over blue of the tactical marking for a Royal Artillery Survey Regiment with a white bar below indicating Army troops ? It's my best guess from thumbing through Hodges & Taylor anyway. |

Well, Rich, the top photo is a Chev and the bottom one is a Ford.
As to exactly which models they are, I am not sure but they are really interesting photos. Bill

It looks like a 20-mm gun mount. Those guns were frequently placed in the cargo box of captured vehicles. Also note they have cut away the side over the wheel arch for inmporved access; also note the wire on the side for the crew to hang their kit on. Regards, Hanno PS: I have moved this posting to a related thread, rather than "In the background".

Another Ford under new management . . . but only just, they have not been able to do anything more than chalk "WL" (Wehrmacht Luftwaffe) on the door.

....unfortunately it cannot be copied to my computer....
Interesting to notice the fender top seat cushions at the back...and the glass rear window as opposed to the sliding sheet metal..... The box seems to be wood.... but not sure since I cannot see any seperation between the boards.... or is it rivited steel....? Bob

This is a good picture of an early Cab 11 Ford..... no roof hatch.... good visual of the mud flaps.... box details.....which I am now convinced is steel 2B1...tai light..... and actual mud splatter of front line driving..... rigid mirror post..... too bad the pit helmet is hidding the mirror.

![]() Great find, Rich, thanks. Part of the photo has been published in Squadron/Signal's "Italian Truck-Mounted Artillery" by well-known Italian specialist Nicola Pignato with the inscription : "A front view of the F15 with the Breda Model 39. Two ammunition boxes are placed near the spare tire, behind the driver's position. The commander is a sergeant. The weapon posed a danger to Allied aircraft below 2,000 meters (about 6,700 feet)." You can find additional info on the bottom of my site : www.o5m6.de/wehrmacht/2cm_Breda.html The truck folowing the F15 is a captured Morris CS8 15-cwt with an Italian Autocannone da 65/17 mounted onto the truck bed. The Italian Regio Esercito had some 30+ vehicles in service in 1942. -Oliver. |
