Nope I've never heard a Generator No.10 scream, siren or whine, nor even the 100A Generator No.9.

I think my hearing's ok as I can hear the whine from my Generator No.2, but that's a gearbox issue not the design of the fan.

I have had a few 90A 24v FFR Landrovers and I have to say they have always purred quieter than my current 2009 VW Scirocco company car.......

I suspect a belt or bearing issue if they squeal or whine ???

why would you post on this forum about the land rover when you are in the UK.

While Richard and Clive hang out here a lot there are many other people who will help you and be interested if you posted on www.hmvf.co.uk which is crammed full of Brits.

I hope the revamp of this article may help those who are stuck trying to sort out problems in their 24v 90A system.

This is a major upgrade of the original article which now has 54 pages with 81 images. The entire project of research, writing, image manipulation and setting up the tests themselves is in the order of 400 hours work. So I hope it helps someone.

Thank you Malcolm. I try to write things I wish that I could have read some years ago. Many of these articles have evolved after stints of trying to help people & trying to explain what's going on. Then realising there might be a better way of explaining it.

What I like about putting the articles on HMVF, it is like an EMER, bits can be added or removed in the light of experiences or uncovering fresh information. Unlike a magazine article that gets frozen in time once it is printed & indeed chucked out when someone realises they have too many mags piling up.

There are still mysteries & details I am pursuing, so maybe next year there will be a further version

Curiously I don't actually own a vehicle with the 90A system

Lynn..all the ones I drove in service never made any noise although I did hear from my FOS that if they had been standing a long time you had to fill the item with oil...probably yours was empty of oil!cheers malcolm

Thank you Ted you're making me blush. The really embarrassing thing is that there are about 20 errors in it mainly of a grammatical nature. So hopefully tomorrow the amended version will be posted to replace what is there which itself is a corrected version!

My problem is that I am quite dyslexic & when I read something I have written with errors, the brain software bypasses what my eyes see & superimposes what it thinks should be there.

The way to weed out the errors is to print out something & read it the next day or read out aloud what I see on the screen. That forces the brain to connect to the eyes rather than to my memory.

"This is the the sought of think I right & not everywon nose watt I meen to to saw"

It's not always quite as bad as that but you get the idea. It slows up any writing as even a simple post like this will have been corrected many times
