Cliff:
Yes, indeed, that is quite true. I'm familiar with these vehicles. In fact, T. J. Richards was responsible for their assembly in Australia. I'm not familiar with any Plymouths that were badge-engineered as actual Chryslers, save for the U.K. models such as the Kew (?). Perhaps some of these were also shipped to Australia. I know there were no 1942-style Plymouth-bodied Chryslers, but there were plenty such Desotos and Dodges. I've learned that 24 brand-new (1942-style) Chryslers were delivered to the military in Australia in 1944. These were bought directly from Chrysler U.S.A. Are you interested in the 1942-1944 sales documents as well? I can email them to you. Bill Last edited by Bill Kreiner; 01-06-11 at 00:49. |

Thanks for the excellent 1938-show data, David!
I'd love to see a pic of the '42 model you speak of. Attached here are scans from the 1948 edition of Motor Specifications and Prices, showing the British Chryslers from 1925 through 1940 (and 1946). Note that Plymouths are shown here as such from 1938 to 1940, but some of the Chrysler models are also Plymouth-based. The Kew appears to be one such model in the later years. http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/...3593c0c26g.jpg http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/...a6a3f96a6g.jpg Last edited by Bill Kreiner; 01-06-11 at 00:48. |

More scans from Motor Specs and Prices, 1948 ed.
The British Plymouth is listed as its own entity from 1930 to 1932, and is Canadian sourced. The British Desoto is listed from 1929 to 1932 as Canadian sourced, then for 1939 and again for 1946 as American sourced (curious!). http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/...f035777d6g.jpg http://www.mediafire.com/imgbnc.php/...7c1c9b9f6g.jpg |

Finally, still from 1948's Motor Specs and Prices, here is the British Dodge data. This is the most curious of all. The Dodge is listed as being American sourced. It's shown for 1925-1940, 1942, and 1946. But not 1941?? The 1942 listing is interesting, as it would corroborate the 1942 Dodge (if that's the brand it was) David saw a picture of.

Similar to Canada , the local Richards/Chrysler cars here , were all Plymouths , rebadged as Dodge and De Soto . It was a cheap way of marketing .
I guess they figured the market was just not big enough to justify making the whole range . Mike
