Yes, the Birtles story was without doubt the best part of the show. It would have been a lot poorer without it. Well done Warren.

The producers got their value out of the Back of Beyond footage, doubling for all sorts of things. Even the Jack the Dogger character from Back of Beyond stood in for Birtles at one stage.

But overall the stories were absorbing and interesting and well told I thought. It has a cab 12 CMP in it and any doco with a CMP just has to be good!

I liked how they portrayed 'Women' especially their involvement as mechanics.
Interesting to see Paul Keating there as well. Warren has had contact with a number of ex Prime Ministers. With his involvement with the ANZAC Centenary he works alongside Malcom Frazer and Bob Hawke.
