All good fun and sounds very adventurous, but I think one thing ought to be made ABSOLUTELY CLEAR when discussing "raids".

All "Finds" of trucks should be done with the complete agreement of the actual owner of the item, supported with some sort of documentation proving the sale or transfer of the items. I don't believe ANYONE on MLU would condone or advocate the theft of items, so I am just putting this down for some who might be readers of the site.

Don't think the practice happens? There have posts in these forums in the past asking members to be on the lookout for Parts, Trucks or Carriers that have gone missing in the night and I sadly think there will be more in the future. I myself have been on both ends of this, with items taken from me (and would gladly visit violence on the perpetrators), and also once being bailed up ( ) by a neighbor of someone whose property I was just leaving with a trailer load of bits. Thankfully I had both a receipt (because there was an engine in there amongst the bits) and a bit of paper with the owner's name, address and phone number that I had used to find the place.

We should be very clear that MLU does not support any practice of illegally obtaining items for our hobby.

I fully agree with your sentiments regarding the removal of any property without the owners permission. We would be very disappointed if any of our MLU members would condone what would be nothing other than theft of property. Theft of any kind should be dealt with by law as those kind of people make it very difficult for us genuine collector/restorers to enjoy our hobby.

We always conduct proper ethics and contact the land owners for permission to enter their property to view anything of interest. We always arrange payment prior to any removal of items purchased. The owner of the property where we uplifted the F15A advised us of others who had visited his property earlier and viewed some of the items, only to find out a short time later that they had returned at night and stole a flat head engine.

It is these types of low lifes that make it difficult for genuine people because property owners become suspicious of strangers on their land.

Very good point about documentation, after many problems getting vehicles registered or titled by members of our local club we have been advising members to include pictures in the Bill of Sale for vehicles or major parts. I know from personal experience that the Bill of Sale including a picture of my Pattern 12 C60L was the finial proof that counted in getting it registered and titled.

By the way, I have always read the term "Boarder Raids" as being more of tongue and cheek description of an exercise were people from outside the region come in and find local treasures that have been lying undiscovered and/or under appreciated, buy them and clear them away before the guy down the road who has had his eye on the prize for years even knows what happened. Of course this is the view point of someone looking for CMPs in a land where basically there are none.

I agree that you should obtain as much documentation and photos as possible when purchasing old vehicles. We always obtain receipts and photograph the vehicle from all angles for our records. As part of having an old vehicle registered, in South Australia you must also present the vehicle to the police station who check numbers and conduct a vehicle check before providing a completed form signed off by police which has to be submitted with all other documentation to the Dept. of Registration.

Border Raids are when some one crosses a state border to collect/recover a found vehicle trophy and move it back into your own state. It is all tongue in cheek stuff and part of Australian interstate rivalry which is part of our make up. There is nothing better than getting " a one up " on your opposition and is all a lot of fun, because when the country is in trouble there are no borders.
