I am reposting this...any thoughts on whether it is an early body or not? The caption appears to suggest it's a Series III. However the rear mudguards are formed of flat section and the body, wood body appears to be narrower than other period CS8T G/S trucks.

I am getting a bit desperate please! The last posting has me foxed, and I wonder if all you Morris Men can lend me your thoughts? Said Morris CS8T is posed at farnborough, probably 1935 possibly 1936. The Trade Plate is a Hampshire County one, and used by the WD in the 1936 Trials..they may have had five? 157/158 HO, and 01016-8 HO. So, it's a WD Trials MCC, but 1935 Series I or II or 1936 Series III? That body looks very 'early' with different rear mudguards to 1937, say, production versions.

This photo and similar ones caught my eye: it's a semi-armoured version of the CDSW and this is what Mr Fletcher says:

had a look at the IWM site and the Kidbrooke photos. Those CDSWs with armoured bonnets seem to have been tested during the early development stage; the design has a bit in common with some of the early armoured car experiments but subsequently a new armoured front end was designed by a chap called Captain Payne who is described as an expert in the subject. This was used on the production armoured cars and a prototype armoured command vehicle. However some time ago I got two photos via Norman Painting that look like a fully armoured CDSW, possibly a larger command vehicle, or even a personnel carrier. I assume this was produced for export, or potential export; I had never come across it before nor learned anything since.

That's a nice find. Later photographs indicate 282 Field Company, RE and also show the 53rd (Welsh) Division insignia. They stayed in the UK until June 1944. I wonder if Rory's truck served with them also ?

The engine has been fully rebuilt . The big ends are the poured type ,with shims , like the 216 chevy .
