There are no markings on the bar and having found a photo of an original, the shape is not quite right. I guess it looks similar because it has a similar function.
Thanks guys. David

I"ve posted photos in the past Lynn but due to my ineptitude it takes hours of bumbling frustration. Like any other field of human endeavour there are naturals who find it easy and those who never get the hang of it.
As Clint Eastwood says in one of his movies, "A mans got to know his limitations". For now I'll leave things alone. David

Hi David,
The original shepards crook is of sqare section,it sounds as if the one that you speak of has been made up from a crow bar Regards Ron

Yes Lynn, I'm afraid I'm moving into the ranks of the 'Over The Hill Gang'.
I think your right Ron. The end opposite the bends is pointed like a conventional crowbar and the bent end is somewhat different to what is on the track tool. Looking at it in the calm light of day I imagine that it is for manoeuvring heavy machinery into place. Thanks for the offer Howard but I'm convinced now that I was barking up the wrong tree. I will certainly ask for assistance if I have any photos worth posting in future. David
