140 Crated Spitfires buried in Burma (Myanmar)?

While I think of it, what is the story on these Burma Spitfires? I gather the exploration at Rangoon Airport was shut down, but I am not certain if the entire project died, or is exploration still being done at one of the other old RAF bases in Burma.

Maybe Pounds recovered them all years ago and spirited them all back to their yard in England.

From what I read they were never there, just a fantasy.
