fittings all done and a quick pressure and the old soapy water test diligently performed again by the budding apprentice (non paid of course) Andrew.
Just a quick grind and then paint. |

A bloke told me once that you there's a similar cap you can buy from a plumbing store. I've never looked into it myself so can't say for sure.
Awesome work Colin. A lot of people go to the expense of making these tanks out of Stainless steel, what are your thoughts? The fuel tanks I have seen have swaging in them. Is this difficult to replicate?

Today myself and three mates put down a slab 7.2m x 3m for my humpy for VR 2225 at my work , two cases of XXXX Beer and she is done . In a couple of years time when we move into our new house my wife will let me have the big shed for my toys but for the time this will have to do . When wife gives you a yes to buy a bren gun carrier you must take the plunge and buy one otherwise the YES can soon turn into a big NO ... Dale

Hi Steve/Alex, I couldn't imagine you would get anything like that at a plumbers store but I did try to get a threaded pipe that I could use and I took in a cap. There was nothing like it here. As far as getting stainless steel ones done, I see no reason for the extra expense seeing that some of the ones I have are 70+ years old and still in excellent cond. I have some that are swaged but the majority are just as I've done them. Not and easy thing to swage them unless you made a die press tool or you had a good quality swage and jenny machine ( I'll get 1 one day)
Dale, would you like me to get some new rubber tracks for the carrier as It would be a shame to mark that lovely slab and by the way, "nice job" I hope to cast the date in it.Colin. |

Thanks Colin . Nice to have mates to help , they did a nice smooth finish no oil stains yet either .. Colin what's the height on the sides of a bren ? . My roof height will be fairy low I hope I can climb into it without rolling it outside each time . Dale
