Wondering if anyone in the manitoba area knows where I can get a 11/12 cab 8cwt. I am going to attempt to make a:
Car, Heavy Utility, 4x2 (Ford C011DF-F8) V-8-cyl., 95 bhp, 4F1R, wb 101 in, 162x78x78 in, 4032 lb. 9.00-13 tyres. Crew six incl. driver. British built body on 8-cwt CMP chassis. Used mainly by RAF. Rear seats folding to provide cargo space. http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/showthread.php?t=461

I have a C8 chassis but you'll need an F8 one. They're entirely different.

That would have to be one of the most interesting CMPs around, good luck finding a suitable chassis.
They are so cute! ![]()

Neil,
Awesome! I have often fantasised about the same project. There are several nice pics on the forum. As Dave stated, all are Fords, and as far as I know all are 12cabs. So, what you need is a 12cab F8. Alex

I do agree all the pictures I've seen are of 12 cab Fords. I figure that since these vehicles were a RAF modification there may have been 11 cabs as well as chevs at some point. This gives me the ability to use 11 cab/12 cab as well as ford or chevy.

There used to be an F8 cab 11 or 12 and chassis sitting in a junk yard in Whitemouth MB some years back. The yard ran parallel to the railway line and I think backed off an old country town style service station. You could see the yard from Hwy 44.
I was also told of a cab 11 or 12 (make unknown) sitting in a farm yard just west of some sort of MTS Comm tower near Starbuck. Never went to check it out but was told an overturned wood box from it was also sitting nearby. David |

If anyone can build it Gord/Neil can do it.....
..... Gord hates Fords with a passion..... comes from working on one before and collecting busted knuckles on the dizzy. Gord/Neil I suggest that you build it on a Ford chassis.... and since you are going to modify it ...... using a designers poetic license ..... why not build yours with a forward tilting cab for ease of maintenance...... ..... so U need a F8 chassis and front cab...... everything cowl forward in a cab 12...... Send me a PM at home...... no I don't have one but we can look around.... Bob

I cannot speak for CMPs out East, but I do have some experience with CMPs on the prairie. In my experience, we usually find the Chev CMPs with decent powertrains (other than the engine) and the 216 usually sprayed enough oil to keep the bodywork preserved. The decent powertrain was because the Chev engines did not last that long.
The Fords, however, will be found with engines still workable, but power-trains will be worn from decades of long service The bodies will usually still be reasonable, but are most likely to have succumbed to farmers modifications over the multi generations of service. Neil, there are 8cwts kicking around Manitoba/Saskatchewan that remain unwanted due to that tire size. Someone in the prairie command club will know just the truck for you. Shame you were not looking for a 15cwt. There are a few up for grabs in our area right now. |
