Where is this tank located? The ad is in English, but the photo doesn't look like Quebec to me. The price is USD. (Why does the name Melody Ranch sounds right?)
Does anyone know if Andre has any money leftover after his C15TA restoration?

I believe this is one of a pair that were being offered for sale for the last while. They were some of the ones imported from Portugal and served with a movie company for many years. The price may be a tad high right now with the Littlefield collection about to come onto the market. I suspect that will dry up the available tank dollars for the next while.

That tank belongs to the Veluzat brothers, Andre and Renaud and is located in Newhall California, and they are indeed the owners of the Melody Ranch motion picture studio where many Hollywood movies, especially westerns were filmed. They sold the sister to that tank early last year, that one was priced at 195k. The brothers have a pretty extensive collection of military hardware, including several ersatz German panzers and US halftracks masquerading as Sdkfz's. The ranch is also home to Hollywood heavyweight Arnold Schwarzenegger's M47 Patton. I recommend anyone traveling through the Santa Clarita area north of LA to pay them a visit, they are great guys and have stories for days about the film business, not to mention the collection of cool military stuff.

Isn't 19,000 miles alot for a tank?! That's like driving across Canada three times LOL. Still would look pretty cool in my garage tho

I think that is an hour meter, not an odometer. There are other gauges that have much lower numbers. (But I know someone smarter than me will have a definitive answer.)

Normally hours will be less than miles, so 19000 hours would be even a higher mileage. There was a formula in the EME handbook if I recall.

19,000 revolutions make a lot more sense.
The 1500 mile life of an engine also sounds about right. Armour is hard on engines, primarily due to cooling difficulties. In more modern times, an M113A2 APC engine (which was a detroit 6V53) normally gave around 10,000 miles before requiring rebuild. The AVGP, which had virtually the same engine except with a turbo, was good for 19,000 miles. The average bus, which also ran 6V53s, were usually good for a hundred thousand + miles. |

Good math Stuart. ( I suppose an Iltis owner would have to be in order to balance his budget vs repair parts requirements).
So if one were to figure an average of 4 miles per hour of operation, then that engine would be nearing it's life expectancy. Then again, oils have come a long way since WW2. |

There was a special on TV years back that featured an American tank collector who had 23 tanks or so. At one point they asked him why he collected tanks. He said "I could collect beer cans, but who would care?"
