Rob thank you for the offert, but we have the kit.
What we are looking for are the roof, the side walls and the back curtain. In the scrapyard is there any parts of the above? Gilles Quote:

I suspect your best bet may be to make up some measurements and have a place like beachwood canvas make it up, or some other custom canvas maker. If you go with a company that already makes canvas for the military jeeps you will have a much better end product than if you go with a tent and awning company. |

It goes without saying that 45yr old canvas will have plenty of weaknesses - rotten fabric, oxidized thread, frayed straps, etc. The vinyl windows are just coarsely sewn onto the canvas. So, whatever you start with is going to be more fragile than something brand new.

On your way home from work next week (but not election day), come by the house and you can see what I have in the Rubbermaid tubs. Or, what is sitting on the rebuild crate .... Hit me up on outlook for the address.

Gilles, any auto electric place that rebuids starters, alternators etc should be able to help, especially an old school place. My friend up in Guelph ON can rebuild anything.

There are several interchangeable models that will replace that 60 amp alternator (NSN 2920-00-909-2483 off the top of my head). Quite frankly, they can often be repaired by replacing the voltage regulator, which is the whole rear plate on most of them. But before that, try and adjust the voltage. You have to remove a small allen key plug, and with a small screwdriver you turn a little potentiometer until you get a charge of around 28 volts.
The MLVW has an interchangeable alternator. You could check with prefair surplus and see if they still have any. The same alternator was also used on the 5 ton diesel, the M151A2, and the 5/4 ton in case you have access to any of those for parts. They are also on ebay all the time. A search for that NSN shows them starting at $375 or best offer. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Prestolite-A...f81e13&vxp=mtr |
