Yes, I guess I will need one.

I'm going to be a little skint (I believe that's the British word for "no money" ) for the next while as this and the other pile of parts that I bought were not cheap. But that's OK, as the snow will soon be here and I can sit in the living room and enjoy the fireplace.

Ammo boxes are no rarity around here. Every farm auction has a couple. Even the 6 pdr bullets come up a couple times a year, but I'll worry about finding all the main gun parts first.

The tires on it now are original rims welded to jeep rims with jeep tires. It did come with a pair of original 8-25-10 tires, although one of them is blown so the hunt for replacements will begin. We installed forklift tires on a couple of similar guns at work, but they are a bit small for the application.

I bought a muzzle brake for it about a year back from MLU so I got lucky there. I have plenty of projects to keep me occupied for the next while so this one will go out to the yard until it's turn comes up.

Great find again, Rob!

You're shopping at that scrapyard like some wives do at a shopping mall when they are bored

Anyhow, re. tyres, here's an ad which might be of interest: http://www.milweb.net/classifieds/la...d=73449&cat=50

These are 3/4" smaller in diameter than the original 8.25-10.00 tyres
that were used but are brand new with no cracking or perishing.
Also correct tubes with cranked valve availiable. Small quantity only.
Tyres £168, Tubes £20

A quick search on the net turns up those tyres cheaper from a tyre dealer.

Yes, I am sure that size can be sourced from a variety of dealers. But the seller is to be commended for finding a tyre which does not look half bad, eh?

You could probably fund your restoration project by buying them and selling them to the Uk - almost every "British Airborne" Jeep owner wants several for their Jeep Hood!

Rob,
Sorry I missed out on this summers recoveries.Looks like things are happening out there this year and I'm missing out on them! You warned me once I find a girlfriend I won't have time for the hobby! Sure is nice having one though! How is the space in the quonset holding out? Must be tight in there now! Hope I can make it out there at least once next year if there's anything left!
Regards,Derk.

Don't worry Derk, the novelty will wear off eventually. We'll get you back.
