Default joining the other side

gents, i am abreast of this issue and reflect that even today the concept is used in warfare. Promises of a thousand virgins are made to combattants in a certain theater of war if they willingly give their lives for the cause. Personnaly i would embrace the live breasts if it meant i have a chance of staying alive a bit longer. No offense intended to the virgins. But changing sides? Never, never to my last breast. 😜

I think Robert has it in one.

What would the title be? Carry On Tyrany!
Carry On, Up The Rhine!

Not to put too finer point on it/them, those folks in the photo were probably ordered to do the propaganda thing, or suffer the consequences.

I knew an elderly German chap who was in he hitler youth during WW2. He had the choice of joining on the spot.......or being shot through the head with the pistol which was already pointed at his forehead. Naturally, he joined immediately. Stayed in as long as it took him to formulate a plan to get the hell out of Germany. During his 'escape' he ran straight into the Russians who were heading the other way. Thus captured, the Russians said they would re-set a broken leg he had suffered several days prior. He was given anaesthetic for the surgery, through the medium of a clenched fist, until he was 'asleep'.

Things not always what they seem. Would love to hear what conversations were had while setting up the photo. Bet things were not as friendly as they appear.

My Uncle and his brother left Germany hours before they were to be enlisted into the Wehrmacht, in the last days of the war. They escaped into Switzerland.

Recruits for a searchlight unit perhaps? They look capable of blinding anyone at quite a distance.
