I seem to remember the "S" was some kind of proof/check mark (?). I know it has been discussed before, but can't remember which thread.
My C8 also has an "S" on the chassis, but I think my font is slightly different.

Good progress Jacek! What a coincidence....I also put a first coat of primer on my cab frame, last weekend!

One of two oryginal tires , I think. Goodyear 1940 profuction . Any idea why it is so heavy ? I can lift other wheels myself but these two are too damn heavy for one man to lift.

The R.F. stands for "Run Flat", a tyre type with very thick side walls, up to 5 cm or so. If punctured by a bullet it would still be usable, holding up the vehicle not by the compressed air in the tyre chamber, but by the thick tyre side walls.

Jacek,

Sounds like a run-flat tyre....they use far more rubber than an ordinary tyre.

or....you could have a leak and the tyre filled with water in stead of air

Run flats also have a rim liner that's a couple of inches thick to keep the tire on the bead.
