I think $20 (Cdn) is an eminently reasonable price - I paid £5 (GBP) each for some several years ago (with good shock absorbers fitted), and inflation hasn't been bad enough to justify a 20x price hike for a couple of effectively junk (rusty and incomplete) examples.

You may well be correct on people being priced out of the hobby.
