sorry to resurrect this post, but I am busy trying to get my speedo cable sorted.... you quote 103" for the cable, but mine seems to measure 127 (give or take 1/2")

have I got some spurious cable in my carrier ? the armoured outer is much bigger than that pictured , it runs along the drivers side lower hull, under the radio operators seat into the top of the diff housing ?

Default Cable core length

Richie,

When I needed a complete cable Brian still had the cores and measured one for me.

Here is his reply: The speedometer cable core is 10 feet 3 inches long.

That would mean 123 inches.

Cheers,

Just laid mine out again and measured it carefully, it's blob on 127" I recall trying one of Bens inner cables at W&P and it was too short

It will be interesting to hear what Michael R has to say.
It could be that your cable comes from a later carrier and was slightly re routed (factory re design) requiring a longer cable.
Btw. the British speedo is different from the Canadian and this might account for the difference. I cannot remember if the fittings are the same.

The 1/4 inch thick rubber gasket behind the dash panel was introduced to help reduce speedo cable failure and also to help reduce the risk of wiring shorts.
I read this somewhere. No recall on where.

I measured the diameter of the cable this morning, and I get 3.5mm diameter.

Thinking about removing the ferrules off the ends and trying to find a length of same diameter cable...

Ok found a company in Canada that do the correct diameter cable, left hand wind. They also do the ends too for those that require them.

my cable cost $17.50 CAD which wont break the bank !

here is the link for anyone else that requires it.

he also rebuilds gauges.
