| 11 set Quote:
The 11 set is more or less the same as the 19 set ...heavy and bulky . You might consider one of the amenities receivers ... these http://vk2bv.org/archive/museum/c17020.htm

Wayne. In your recent post you say the fit of this 19 Set and carrier arrangement looks nothing like the original photos. Can you post those photos for us with any relevant observations you have made, for the group to review? One of the big challenges with restoration of wartime vehicles that were wireless equipped, is the fact the vehicle life span all too often outlasts more than one variation of wireless equipment. Each set can leave its own trace and after 40 or more years of accumulation you have quite a puzzle sitting in front of you. It can get even more challenging when you talk to Vets who worked with the vehicles if they are from different time frames. Always a good idea to establish time of service when interviewing Vets as it can help clarify the chronology of the equipment used in the vehicle. Would any Australian Army Signals Museums have documents on file for how this particular model vehicle was knitted out? David |

Had a chat with some radio boffins about radio sets available in 1941/42. The first 19 sets were different from the MK 2 set I have and did not have a pull handles and the PSU didn't poke out the front as much. Other sets were about the same size and lots of other information to glaze ones eyes over. Any hey, I will use a period base with the canvas bits and a strap across the top to hold it in place so no one dies when I turn the first corner. This is a dummy construction, a wider base by fitting a document drawer that will lift the set up and back and fit with original style support frame. There is even enough room for the crew man to sit between the radio and tailgate. Included is a photo I got from Keith of the original frame support. 6s int.jpg 19a.jpg |

| update election day

Happy election day! I got hold of a copy of Wireless for the Warrior and found an installation for a 19 set I'm happy with. The Door skins are now fitted, looking good and all the body lines are consistent. Doors all open and stay closed, used the latches off other 13 cabs. Need to de chrome the door fittings and clean up the lashing hooks before painting. Also started on the windscreens, no ones favorite job. As the norm, the bottom section was rusted so plan B is to use the brass screens I have collected over time. Original glass cleaned up perfect, no milky stains. |

Looks superb Wayne! What paint are you contemplating? I've just bought a couple of tins of Kahki J from Flowrite - and have test painted a couple of pieces this afternoon - it looks wonderful, and all thanks to Gina's hard work... Quote:

| paint my wagon

Hi Keith, I read most of Gina's research and the scale of it is impressive. Paint colours would have to be the biggest worm can in our hobby and every one has an opinion, some are even right. I have found the further a vehicle is away from Johnny Shinnypants who writes directives, the greater the colour variation.... then next month another directive comes out. Anywho, I will scan the original door skin to get a colour I'm happy with. The camo light mud is a shade that I really like, very different to any other colour I've seen on a Military Truck. This vehicle was supposed to be finished in DBG post war but some one missed the directive and painted it gloss dark olive. Would have looked pretty cool in its day trundling along West Coast Highway. Plan B, is there a code a paint supplier in WA can use to tint up Kahki J? Fitted up the rear door lockers, used for storing the Officer's vital equipment, there is also a map holder just above the door. |

| Book

At the library today, I spotted a recently published non-fiction book about a outback family during the 1930's to 40's. The front cover photo is of a Aust. heavy utility 4x2 .
