Well before General Norman Schwarzkopf, and just as fearce. He was one of my first TV heroes. Him, and The Thunderbirds team. My brother must have thought so too, because he came home one day with his new Monaro, V8. Well, it was new for him, anyway. I once had an FJ sedan, like the one you photographed. It looked fantastic. Always loved the lines of the FX & FJ Holdens. Mine had a 138 grey motor, 'stock' except for some head work, SUs, bit of a rebore, extractors, and supposedly ported. Maybe jot so stock, come to think of it. The previous owner did all that work, then decided to keep the original '3 on the tree' box. Why would you do that??? Body roll in that car was horrendous, and it handled like a cow, but I loved that old thing. Only ever applied armourall to the bench seat ONCE. It was the catalyst to me fitting seat belts though!

Another racing driver name I recall is Peter Manton, he mostly drove a Mini Cooper I think. He died too young .
Those Standard Triumph's on display look nice . The spaceship caravan is very odd .

Wonder what that caravan looks like fully deployed?

Holy hell! I've just realised that caravan folds down into a much smaller package. That's really odd, but clever. Like a tiny little bondwood transformer.
What's the mechanical device on that trailer behind the red vehicle? Is it a hand pumping mechanism? I don't recall Peter manton, but then I have forgotten things a lot more recent than that.

G'day Tony,
I am not trying to tell you a Furphy - however that red tank towed by the 1939 Chevrolet is actually a Furphy Tank - as Mike Kelly pointed out. If you had taken a wee diversion from where Bryce's graduation was held then you might have arrived in Shepparton. Once there you could have taken the Furphy Tank Museum tour. The tanks have a strong link to Australian Military history for providing water to the fronts - plus they bred a colloquialism that is associated with Australian folk lore. Accessed October 23, 2016 from http://www.furphys.com.au/who-we-are/furphy-water-cart Kind Regards Lionel

Yes Furphy ..... the device on the trailer is a hand pump . He told me its a original ex RAAF Furphy trailer which is also a rare survivor .
I found this film of a 1940 ute in Egypt with a cable laying device ..doors removed for air flow. This ute has the same GMH bodywork. The body has a wooden frame and they were fragile to begin with . https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/F07021/ And a YMCA ute https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/F03438/ At the end of this film a YMCA ute is seen , a 1941 model . https://www.awm.gov.au/collection/F01223/
