I was wondering what it went to, There is a flee market here that has a NOS one.

If I recall correctly, it was a checklist item. When guys were transferring their APC from one guy to the next, they would not know what it was so they would mark it onto the deviation list, and another would be ordered. As such, it is not uncommon to find these boxes.
