This is all very good stuff, Most interesting watching this thread grow from all corners of the globe, for me this is what makes MLU such a special place. One practical note the Chev transfer cases (about 5) I have taken apart were all fitted with Timken bearings, the earliest was a non vented C30 so that would be June/July 1940 the latest was a mid range 13 cab C60 .
