It's the engine number.

1G = 3-3/16 bore 95hp V8 engine coupled to a 4 speed lorry gearbox.The 1 means a 1940 model/production year (which does not correspond to a calendar year).


10581 = sequential number of the engine (not the truck). 1G7F was produced in Feb 1940, 1G15318F in November 1941.

F: Foreign to Canadian or US domestic production, which in effect means they are used in right hand drive vehicles.
