Thank you both for your responses. I searched for pictures on the net but I haven't found exactly the same part. There was probably numerous versions. I recognized however the lock mechanism on a Centaur engine plate.

It could be Comet as that inherited the same part from late Cromwell but given its location, it is more likely Cromwell. You should find a picture ok if you do a picture search for 'Comet tank engine decks'
