Battery Hold Down

Can anyone explain/show how the battery was held down inside the battery box? I assume the half countersunk blocks in the bottom held a bracket of some kind?

And while I am here, was there a standard colour for the Jack, starter handle etc? I have seen them in green, black, and a grey/blue?
