Fantastic that it is sitting upright and so deep that almost nothing grows.

They found the HMAS Canberra in the Solomons few years back. There is strong evidence it was sunk by an American ship during a shambolic night battle.

The Australian Navy seemed to specialise in disasters with the captain of the recently found Sydney gullibly coming up close to a German Raider and the Perth along with USS Houston being sent on a suicide mission into the Japanese fleet by a Dutch admiral. Perth, being much shallower, was found by divers way back in the 60's - "The Bells of Sunda Strait" tell that story.

They mention finding the Indianapolis which was the US flag ship sunk in the last days of the war. If you need to read about disasters, incompetence and scapegoating "All the Drowned Sailors" both book and movie will have you wondering.
