Seems like the right tool for the job.
In Australia, serving DUKWs were also as used rescue vehicles in the Maitland floods of 1949 and 1955. Not just DUKWs, LVT Buffalos too.

Not amphibious, but there is a fellow in Gatineau, Quebec who ran his MLVW as a rugged high clearance transporter for sandbags. The rivers are high and rising, with the peak still a couple days away. I suspect any sandbags he hauled are on the bottom layers several feet underwater now.
