The small town of The Rock, NSW has M113A1 134498 APC w/T50 turret displayed in pride of place at it's War Memorial. The local Secretary of the RSL Branch has been busy writing, as the street's tree lined avenue also features a ship's anchor and a stabiliser tailplane from an F-111 C to represent all 3 services. ![]() Last edited by Tony Smith; 26-06-20 at 05:41. |

Sorry for the quality of some of the pics, it was a cold frosty morning, and my breath was fogging up the camera lens!

Each of those trees in that avenue was planted for a WW1 serviceman from that district who did not come home.
Sadly, there are a lot of trees... In the cafe at The Rock there is a magnificent picture of the Vickers Vimy that won the London to Australia flight just after WW1. It was forced to land at The Rock due to engine trouble... drew quite a crowd at the time.

Trying not to deviate from the subject of this thread, but as you brought up the Vimy, I thought I should share this photo. Back in the 90's an American businessman built a replica of the Vickers Vimy and re-enacted the flight from England to Australia, the co-pilot was forum member Lang Kidby. About 15 years ago I restored a military vehicle for the Vimy's owner and he visited my workshop once by flying the Vimy in to a nearby landing strip. This photo is as they arrived. A massive aircraft for its time. regards, Richard
