By the lengths that you PMd me, I would suggest they are the gas can straps that get rivetted onto the gas can bracket. I had a look at an MLVW I have outside and it has the identical straps, although the part number can't be read anymore.

These look like American buckles - which work. I may be wrong but I have not seen British or Commonwealth WW2 light web straps fitted with this style. They seem to all have been those worthless brass square type that can not be tensioned properly or easily undone.

I think Rob is on to them.
