I agree it looks to have many gun tractor features, but I'm wondering why change the prefix to a truck.

It is not unusual to see the wrong prefix letter used for the census number in the Chilwell list.

I have seen this vehicle referred to as a CGT that has been converted to an APC which might explain the L prefix letter.

Perhaps an armoured Observation Post Vehicle but the purpose of that box on the back would probably identify its use.

The box on the rear might be as simple as providing a bit of storage (POL (flammable) cans, tire chains, whatever) outside the crew compartment, using the existing frame length without being nearly as heavy as a full height/width compartment.
