This pic turned up on the Gippsland F/B page . Looks similar to a 1939 Ford army Battery Staff ute but not sure ?
"In the saddle is the local builder, the late Mr. R. J. 'Jack' Grubb. An uncle by marriage to my Aunt Lois. Sitting upon an Early 50's Matchless G80 (or similar). Unfortunately I cannot definitely identify anyone else. Probably early to mid 50's and almost definetly behind the dunes at Seaspray."

Probably a 1970s era pic. Could be ex-mil vehicle as I see the canvas or what might be might be tonneau hooks along the body side but no top bow brackets so who knows ! I would say a 1940 Chevy 1 Tonner , 17" wheels. Doubt it is still around now. The GM-H tubs on these were somewhat flimsy and not long lasting, after weather exposure, once the wooden frame became unstable they fell apart. Don't know how this one lasted til the 1970s !

I had a look at this rare Aust. military 1941 Chev 'masonite' ute many years ago when it was in a shed at Yarra Junction.
The vehicle is now being worked on by a friend. These Aust. car based soft top utes have some similarity to the German Umbau vehicles that were featured in a Wheels & Tracks magazine.
