It's not the jumping......
...it's the landing. At least he will not be banging his head on a steel top.
There are pictures of such drivers wearing some kind of wide leather "kidney belt" back brace over top of their coveralls........ and I don't think it was meant to keep them warm. Just remember to keep your teeth far from the steering wheel. Nice site though.
