Yes, Jacques, the fluting should be fully hidden inside the stem. I think the tip is also hardened, or at least a different temper than the stem. Mariano's rod has an added spring washer which is not original. Often, as the fuel pump begins to fail, or perhaps the cam lobe on the camshaft gets worn, a washer is added to increase the stroke of the fuel pump. Doesn't fix the root of the problem! |

Thanks Tony for your comments. I currently have a modern electric fuel pump. Now I am getting the missing parts so that I can one day install the original fuel pump.

I was un aware of the two piece rod. Yes the rod will be hardened. Cam followers are "Chilled" cast iron and I suspect rod ends are same. I think the ends are sweated to a steel tube? I think the wear is more often lost motion at the pump linkage end rather than the cam lobe.

Hi Boys! My flathead is running on an electric fuel pump. It does not have a mechanical fuel pump or push rod installed. The lack of push road can cause oil leaks or loss of pressure in the oil gallery? Thanks in advance! CMP have rod bushing with or without oil hole?

| Fuel rod extender

The old bush mechanic way here was to add a sixpence under the rod to give a little more lift to the fuel pump. Quote:
