The first sentence: "Specialist units and formations concerned with irregular warfare, as a distinctive type of military unit, first emerged during the Second World War." ignores the fact that the term Commando entered the British Military lexicon following the use of Irregular Units and Formations by the Boers in the Boer War, a style of fighting that was in turn adopted by the Imperial Forces. This led to the creation of such units as the Bushveldt Carbineers, those of Breaker Morant fame (or Infamy!)
